IETI Fellowship and Membership System

(This new rule takes effect on October 15th, 2025.)

I. Fellowship Categories and Eligibility Criteria
a. Laureate Distinguished Fellow (LDFIETI)
Awarded by the Executive Committee (composed of Distinguished Fellows, Fellows, and leading experts). Self-nominations are not accepted.
Eligibility Requirements:
1 Recipients of the Nobel Prize, Fields Medal, or Turing Award. For recipients of other awards, support from at least 10 Presidents of IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI is required.
2 Applicants must demonstrate significant contributions in the fields of engineering, technology, sustainable development, or interdisciplinary fields — such contributions must generate tangible and visible impact in advancing scientific and technological as well as social progress, addressing global challenges, or pioneering innovative solutions at the intersection of multiple technical fields.
3 A positive stance toward activities organized by IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI.
4 Five recommendation letters from IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI Fellows, or one recommendation letter with one publication in a journal/conference affiliated with IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI, or one recommendation letter with proof of registration for two IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI conferences, or one recommendation letter with two keynote speeches for IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI conferences.
5 Members / Fellows who have won any of the three major awards (Nobel Prize, Turing Award, Fields Medal) in previous years will be automatically upgraded to LDF.

b. Distinguished Fellow (DFIETI)
Awarded by the Executive Committee (composed of Distinguished Fellows, Fellows, and leading experts). Self-nominations are not accepted.
Eligibility Requirements:
1 Focusing primarily on experts in engineering and technology, the scope also extends to other disciplines, especially those that have achieved significant interdisciplinary advances or practical applications; or whose outcomes demonstrate cross-disciplinary integration, contribute to sustainable development, and generate notable societal impact.
2 Hold the position of University Distinguished Professor (permanent, full-time appointment for at least 2 years); and possess prestigious international fellowships/awards, hold senior roles in global academic societies, and have published research in top-tier international journals. IETI will give comprehensive consideration to candidates based on their academic performance as reflected in Scopus or Google Scholar.
3 A positive stance toward activities organized by IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI.
4 Five recommendation letters from IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI Fellows, or one recommendation letter with one publication in a journal/conference affiliated with IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI, or one recommendation letter with proof of registration for two IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI conferences, or one recommendation letter with two keynote speeches for IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI conferences.

c. Fellow (FIETI)
Awarded by the Executive Committee (composed of Distinguished Fellows, Fellows, and leading experts). Self-nominations are not accepted.
Eligibility Requirements:
1 Make significant contributions in any one field among engineering, technology, sustainability, and social progress.
2 Hold the position of University Full Professor (permanent, full-time appointment for at least 2 years); or hold senior roles in prestigious international academic societies and have published research in leading journals. IETI will give comprehensive consideration to candidates based on their academic performance as reflected in Scopus or Google Scholar.
3 A positive stance toward activities organized by IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI.
4 Five recommendation letters from IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI Fellows, or one recommendation letter with one publication in a journal/conference affiliated with IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI, or one recommendation letter with proof of registration for two IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI conferences, or one recommendation letter with two keynote speeches for IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI conferences.
5 Each year, some outstanding associate professors may be considered, based on their academic performance reflected in Scopus or Google Scholar. Such candidates must submit either two publications in journals/conferences affiliated with IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI (or proof of registration for three IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI conferences) plus two recommendation letters from IETI/IDSAI/IRIEM Fellows, which exempts them from the requirements specified in Item 4.

d. IETI Member (MIETI)
Awarded by the Secretary-General/Co-Founders. Self-nominations are not accepted.
Eligibility Requirements:
1 A positive stance toward activities organized by IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI.
2 Open primarily to employed professionals.
3 Five recommendation letters from IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI Fellows, or one recommendation letter with one publication in a journal/conference affiliated with IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI, or one recommendation letter with proof of registration for two IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI conferences.
4 Must hold a PhD degree. If without a PhD, candidates may qualify as an IETI Society/Chapter member, with equivalent membership status.

e. IETI Society/Chapter Member (MIETI)
Awarded by the Secretary-General/Co-Founders. Self-nominations are not accepted.
Eligibility Requirements:
1 A positive stance toward activities organized by IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI.
2 Open primarily to employed professionals.
3 Five recommendation letters from IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI Fellows, or one publication in journal/conference affiliated with IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI, or proof of registration for two IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI conferences.

f. Student Member (StuMIETI)
Awarded by the Secretary-General/Co-Founders. Self-nominations are not accepted.
Eligibility Requirements:
1 A positive stance toward activities organized by IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI.
2 Currently enrolled as an undergraduate, master’s, or PhD student.
3 Five recommendation letters from IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI Fellows, or one publication in a journal/conference affiliated with IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI, or proof of registration for two IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI conferences.
4 With the approval of 2 IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI Presidents, workload can be converted through other services.
5 Student Members will be categorized under IETI Society or Chapter membership.

II. Fellowship/Membership Benefits
a. Priority for publishing in IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI conferences/journals; eligibility to recommend (submissions) in partner journals indexed by WoS/Scopus/ABDC.
b. Eligibility for best-paper awards and other honors; rights to nominate candidates for and run for leadership positions within IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI.
c. Rights to propose, co-organize, and chair IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI conferences/journals; eligibility to serve as a committee member or editorial board member.
d. Invitations to review submissions for IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI events; discounted registration fees for IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI conferences or journals.

III. Key Notes: Election Schedule
a. Laureate Distinguished Fellows, Distinguished Fellows, and Fellows: Elected annually. Application materials must be submitted by June 30, with election results announced before September 30. Certificates will be issued upon election.
1 During the preliminary review, candidates who do not meet the requirements will be automatically filtered out.
2 During the evaluation phase, experts will verify the reliability of the candidates' materials and eliminate a further portion.
3 In the final round, senior fellows will vote, and only those who receive approval from two-thirds of the voters will have a chance to be selected.
b. Members (including Student Members): Rolling admission. Certificates will be issued upon approval.

IV. Submission Requirements
a. For Members or Fellows nominated by six Presidents of IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI, application materials may be appropriately streamlined (e.g., exemption from partial supporting documents).
b. For all other Fellow and Member candidates, the following materials are required:
1 A comprehensive CV
2 A link to Scopus or Google Scholar.
3 A link to the official university/company webpage or relevant international report page.
4 Recommendation letters from IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI Fellows, and/or evidence of publications in IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI journals or presented at their conferences, and/or proof of registration for two IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI conferences, and/or other proof of providing support to IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI.

V. Medals or Certificates
a. Outstanding Members or Fellows will be awarded a medal. Qualifying contributions may include, for example, repeatedly supporting online or on-site meetings/conferences, engaging in work discussions and outreach, volunteering at events, registering for journals or conferences, and providing donation support.
b. Outstanding Members or Fellows who have completed the relevant workload but fail to meet the criteria for medal awards may be presented with a certificate by the association's presidents, academicians, or experts in person.
c. The production timeline for medals / certificates, as well as the exact date and venue of the medal presentation ceremony, will be determined and announced by IETI separately.
d. If the application is approved by 6 Presidents of IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI, the workload can be simplified.

VI. General Notes
a. Once elected, membership status is normally lifelong. However, IETI reserves the right to revoke membership in cases of serious research misconduct or other actions that bring detrimental publicity to the organization.
b. These rules apply to all IETI members, including those belonging to its subdivisions (e.g., Societies, Chapters).
c. The term “conferences or journals” in these rules refers exclusively to those affiliated with IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI, not all partner conferences or journals.
d. The term "Presidents" here refers to the Presidents, Vice Presidents, Executive Presidents of IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI, and the IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI President of Executive Committee.
e. Specifically, this discount is only applicable to conferences or journals hosted by IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI, with a 10% reduction in fees, and requires the provision of a membership certificate or membership webpage proof for verification.
f. The definitive list of qualifying IETI/IRIEM/IDSAI journals, conferences, and acceptable volunteer activities—along with their equivalent weight, detailed membership/fellowship information, and any webpage updates—will be determined and explained solely by IETI.
