The International Engineering and TechnologyInstitute (IETI) would like to congratulate the winners of 2023 2nd IETI Green Development and Sustainability Award.
Professor Ramesh Agarwal, WashingtonUniversity in St. Louis, USA
Professor Agarwal is an internationally recognized expert in CFD and its applications to aerospace products. Over acareer spawning 47 years (22 years in industry and 25 years in academia), hehas worked in CFD, Computational Electromagnetics and Acoustics, Flow Control,Rarefied Gas Dynamics, Hypersonic Reacting Flows, Turbomachinery & Pumps,Multidisciplinary Optimization, Aircraft Design and Green aircraft Concepts. InCFD, he has worked in almost all building blocks of CFD — namelygrid-generation, adaptive and multi-grid methods, solution algorithms for Eulerand Navier-Stokes equations, turbulence modeling, parallel processing and theirapplications to all aerospace products (commercial & fighter aircraft, missiles and launch vehicles, helicopters and space vehicles including NASP& SSTO). He has been working in the field of “Environmentally ResponsibleAviation” for nearly two decades. Some of his significant accomplishments in “Green Aviation” field are listed below.
1. AIAA / SAE William Littlewood Lecture Award on “Sustainable Aviation” in 2009.
2. Bookcontract from AIAA to write a book on “Green Aviation Engineering” in 2017. Theprogress has been slow since the book has morphed from a monograph to a textbook. Expected completion date is December 2023.
3. Hasoffered a very popular short course on “Sustainable Aviation” under theauspices of AIAA and Sigma Xi.
4. Hasintroduced environmental sustainability concepts in undergraduate/graduatecourses in Aerodynamics, Propulsion, Aircraft Structures and Aircraft Designwhich have been provided to other institutions through NASA Space Grant andASEE
5. In2013, Dr. Agarwal was appointed co-editor of Wiley Encyclopedia of “GreenAviation” with Fay Collier and Allan Seabridge (ISBN: 978-1-118-86635-1,October 2016, 536 Pages)
6. SustainableAviation Research Society’s Lifetime Achievement award (2017)
7. Technicalcontributions to flow control, boundary layer ingestion (AIAA 2013-2406) andopen rotor technologies (AIAA 2014-0408, 2015-2714, JPP, 31 (3), 2015, pp.1-5), documented in many AIAA and journal papers.
8. Developmentof system level approach and assessment of enabling technologies for liquidhydrogen and liquid ammonia powered mid-range B737 class and long range B767class aircraft including the study of fuel-cell based engine for mid-rangeB717-200.
9. Trainingof MS and PhD students through courses and research topics related to “Green Aviation” and the use of software such as NPSS, AVL, RDSWin, CFX, NSGA-II etc.
Professor Jing Sun, School of Medicine and Dentistry, Griffith University, Australia
Prof Sun is an internationally recognized expert and leader. She leads a large scale Chronic Diseases/Mental Illness randomised controlled trials and cohort studies focusing on the prognosis and treatment of patients with cardiovascular disease, diabetes and mental disorders in the era of effective lifestyle based rehabilitation and cognitive behavioural therapy. Her other research interests include global maternal and preterm infants health, and prevention of birth defect, and global burden of disease program.
In the past four years, Prof Sun and team has attracted over 8.5 millions Australia Dollars research funding in the health and medical research area, in particular focusing on the health inequality research in global, regional and local level while simultaneously applying big data analytical approach, ranging from multi-level analysis, meta-analysis, Bayesian approach, time series, S16 Sequencing, neuroimaging, to machine learning and deep learning methods for global, national and large clinical and survey data. Her research in health inequality research focuses on sustainable developmental goal and advocate for the positive health outcome of left-behind children, children and mothers in low and middle income countries, people with chronic diseases in order to reduce the health inequality due to quality of health care services. She has published over 283 esteemed journal publications. She has supervised 11 PhD students as principal supervisor and 10 PhD students as co-principal supervisor to completion, 4 international visiting fellows, and 40 research master degree students to completion since 2010. Her major achievements are recognized as:
1.Elected Fellow of International Engineering and Technology Institute (IETI)
2.Accredited Statistician of Australia Society of Statistics
3.Senior Fellow of Higher Education Academy (SFHEA)
4.Elected President of Australia Society of International Engineering and Technology Institute
5.Elected President of Queensland Chinese Association of Scientists and Engineers (2019-2021)
6.Elected Vice-President of Federation of Chinese Scholars Australia (2019-present)
7.Collaborator with Bill Gates Foundation Funded Global Burden of Disease Research Program
8.Five conference chairs since 2016, and more than 40 plenary, keynote and invited presentations in conferences.
9.Supervised 11 PhD students to completion as a principal supervisor, and 10 PhD students to completion as co- supervisor
