Dr. Chen Ruey Shan is Senior Lecturer in the Department of Applied Physics, Faculty of Science and Technology, FST, University Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) since 2018. Previously she was employed as post-doctoral researcher in the same institution, UKM from 2016-2018. As post-doctoral researcher, she managed to guide the undergraduate (final year project) and postgraduate students for their research projects and dissertations, and involved in grant writing and carrying out research works and paper writings. In current position, she has taught several materials-related courses in her department.
Her research interest is in the field of polymer blending, natural fiber or agricultural waste reinforced biocomposites and multifunctional nanoparticles composites. She has received university and government research grants in the areas of green and functional composite materials, acting as the head researcher or associate researcher for such grants. She has the opportunity to collaborate with Fuel Cell Institute from the same university in Transdisciplinary Research Grant Scheme (TRGS) project, and other universities such as Universiti Malaysia Perlis and UCSI University. She has also served as committee for organizing Nuclear Science, Technology and Engineering Conference (iNuSTEC) in 2019, Postgraduate Colloqium (FST, UKM) in 2020, The 1st International Conference Science Engineering Technology (INNOSTEC) in 2020 and Malaysia Polymer International Conference in 2021 & 2023. In addition, since 2020, she has served as a visiting research fellow at the Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Geopolymer & Green Technology (CEGeoGTech).
Chen has published research writings related to her field in scientific journals (more than 40 WoS indexed journals), 1 book and 3 chapters in books, and few conference papers. Currently, her 20 h-index is with 1022 citations (Scopus) and 22 h-index with 1399 citations in Google Scholar Citations.
