I received my BSc Engineering (with First Class Honors) in Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering from the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka in 1994, MSc degree in Computer Engineering from the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore in 2000, MBA in Business Administration from the University of Colombo in 2005, Sri Lanka and Ph.D. in Information Technology from the Universiti Utara Malaysia (Northern University of Malaysia) in 2016. Even before graduation, I was absorbed into the academia at the University of Moratuwa as an instructor on contract in 1994. After completing the contract in 1995, I joined the Lanka Internet Services Limited (LISL), the very first commercial Internet Service Provider in Sri Lanka as a Systems Engineer in charge of wireless data networking. During my tenure at LISL, I successfully connected many government and private organizations to the Internet using high speed dedicated digital wireless links. Then in 1996, I briefly joined Dynacom Engineering Private Limited on invitation to popularize Motorola networking devices. In 1996, I rejoined the University of Moratuwa as a lecturer in electronic and telecommunication engineering, where I remained until leaving for higher studies in 1997. From 1997 to 1999, I carried out research at the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore on Interferometric Sonar based Imaging for my MSc degree. In 1999, I submitted the thesis titled "Parallel Computing Techniques for Interferometric Sonar based Imaging" and successfully defended it. After the successful completion of the masters degree, I left for the United States of America for employment. Initially I worked for Neutec Corporation in Frederica, Delaware. Then in 2000, I joined the SanVision Technology (SVT), an Information Technology consultancy firm in Manhattan, New York. Through SVT, I worked for the American International Group (AIG) as an IT Consultant in charge of desktop support and wide area networking specialist. In 2002, I returned back to Sri Lanka and joined the University of Moratuwa as a Senior Lecturer initially in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and then in 2004 in the Department of Information Technology within the Faculty of Information Technology. While being a permanent academic staff member with the University of Moratuwa, I joined the Universiti Utara Malaysia (Northern University of Malaysia) on study leave and completed the PhD in the field of Information Technology specializing in Computer Networks (Cloud Computing) in 2016. In addition to teaching and conducting research, I have held many administrative positions including the Head of the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies, Director of the Postgraduate Studies Division, Senior Students' Counselor etc., within the Faculty of Information Technology. During this period, I was also a visiting lecturer to the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU), Sri Lanka and Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT). In 2019, I took my sabbatical leave from the University of Moratuwa and joined the Asian Development Bank as National eGovernment Specialist (TA Consultant). In addition to being an active academic and a researcher, I am also a highly sought after ICT consultant to the government and private institutions in Sri Lanka. I have provided my active services to many institutions including the Urban Development Authority, the Ministry of Megapolis and Western Development, the Information & Communication Agency (ICTA) of Sri Lanka, People's Bank, National Lotteries Board, Ceylon Petroleum Corporation, the Parliament of Sri Lanka, Sri Lanka Telecom Limited, and the National Savings Bank to name a few. My professional qualifications and affilliations include Chartered Engineer (CEng) in Information Technology, Corporate Member of the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka (IESL), Member of the Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), Member of the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers (MIEICE) Japan, Member of the International Association of Engineers (MIAENG) Hong Kong, the Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) and the Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). My research interests include cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT), social media applications & analytics, vehicular networks, intelligent transport systems, ICT applications in disaster mitigation and management, 5G & 6G networks, Software Defined Networks (SDN), Information Centric Networking (ICN), and Internet and eGovernance.
