Wei Li, born in Boli County, Heilongjiang Province,China, is a foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences and aresearcher at the Innovative Sewage Treatment Center of the Ho Ying DongResearch Institute at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. Healso serves as the Executive Director of the Environmental BiotechnologyLaboratory at the Daqing Oilfield and Assistant Director of the NationalEngineering Research Center for Heavy Metal Pollution Control (Hong KongBranch).He holds a Doctor of Engineering degree from Harbin Institute ofTechnology, as well as a Doctor of Innovative Leadership Engineering degreefrom Tsinghua University. He completed his postdoctoral research in theDepartment of Civil and Environmental Engineering at both Tsinghua Universityand the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
Wei Li is primarily engaged in the development andindustrialization of oilfield microbial ecology, green and low-carbontechnologies for environmental pollution control in the petrochemical industry,biomass energy, and CCUS-MEOR technology.He has been awarded titles includingInnovation Leading Talent of Guangzhou, High-end Talent of Daqing OilfieldLimited Liability Company, Double Innovation Doctor of Jiangsu Province, TaihuTalent of Wuxi City, High-end Talent of Nansha District, and Expert of GuangdongProvincial Environmental Protection Association.
In terms of awards, Wei Li has received the GoldAward for International Innovative Technology Invention in the UK, Gold andSilver Awards at the Geneva Exhibition, Second and Third Prizes for Scientificand Technological Progress in Heilongjiang Province, Second Prize for Scienceand Technology in Shaanxi Province, Third Prize for Environmental TechnologyProgress in Guangdong Province, the Annual Science China Person of the YearAward, and multiple awards for innovative achievements in China's industry-academia-researchcollaboration.
Since starting his research, he has participated inthe National 863 Key Project, led one project funded by the National NaturalScience Foundation of China, and more than 80 cooperative projects betweenGuangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao as well as enterprise projects. He haspublished over 100 SCI papers, more than 60 EI papers, applied for more than130 invention patents, obtained 57 patents, and published 14 monographs.Through technology research and development, technology transfer, andindustry-academia-research cooperation, he has promoted and applied 10technological achievements, including 6 demonstration projects for sulfur cyclebiotechnology sewage treatment and 2 demonstration projects for oily sludgetreatment.
